Not that anyone asked, but I thought I would share how I came up with such a cute, little, last minute "costume." As you all know, I am the world's worst procrastinator! Seriously. So, a couple of months ago when the news letter came home about Peanut's upcoming Spring Program I
pushed it to the side set it on the counter in my favorite mound of papers to eventually go through. ;) I knew I had "time" to look for a costume.
I tried to convince my boy in the following weeks to let his Daddy take him to the Co-op for overalls and something John Deere, but this wasn't going to cut it for the boy who was absolutely dead set on being a baby calf. After all, he had been talking about it for weeks. *sigh*
Fast forward to Sunday when I tucked my sweet Peanut into bed and kissed him goodnight. I said, "Ok, buddy, tomorrow after school Daddy is going to take you to the tractor store and let you find some overalls so you can be a farmer at your program on Tuesday!!!"
Let the whining, crying and mega tears begin.
*Double sigh*
And you already know that from here a song was started about how Mommy doesn't love her precious boy and all he wanted to do was be a baby calf.....
Monday night about 7:00 p.m. I made a special trip to our local Hobby Lobby to search for the perfect supplies to transform anything into a calf costume. I had something in mind but wasn't sure what exactly. The first thing I grabbed was a white t-shirt.
And I was happy enough with just this. Really.
But my search continued for something cow printed. And I looked first at the iron on transfer section. No luck. Then stood at the fabric paint section for a few brief seconds. I even picked up one of those cardboard tee shirt forms and black fabric paint. Then I asked myself, "Are you crazy?!? You cannot pull off a paint project and it be dry by tomorrow. No way!" And I put the tee shirt form and paint back on the shelf.
At this point my bladder was speaking to me so I took a little potty break. Listen to me people, this crafting stuff is serious business. The preparation stage for such projects takes a lot of thinking (for people like me!!!). And if you don't believe me, you could ask some of my scrapping pals. It takes me hours to get one picture placed on a scrap booking page.
I digress.
Upon returning to the craft section after my little pit stop I continued walking up and down the isles of HL. I turned down the flip flop isle and for about 15 seconds lost myself in the very cute flip flop crafting supplies and suddenly remembered why I was at HL to begin with. Have I mentioned how easily distracted I can be?
Further down from the flip flops were shelves and shelves of bandanas!
Score!!! I found bandanas printed just like this! And that made an even happier mama! Just how was I going to take that bandana and tee shirt and make a cow costume? I did a little spin and found the iron on transfer paper stuff. Hmmmm.
Daddy and Mommy had a cutting and ironing fest Monday night! Daddy had fun cutting and commenting on all the different shapes of the little calf's spots. ;) Mommy placed and ironed each spot on the shirt until it looked like the perfect calf "costume."
I had also picked up some of that super thick and fuzzy pipe cleaner. I added some yarn and attached it to the belt loop of his pants.. voila .. a tail! And that has to be the cutest lil claf tooshie I have ever seen (I might be slightly biased!).
I really wasn't sure how Peanut would react the next morning when he woke up to see what I had created, but as most moms would do... I hoped for the best. And to my surprise my boy was happy.
I took the big smile as a token of love. Surely he loved me again!
Proud mama and her baby calf.
The program at preschool was precious. For 3/4 years old those kids sure know how to put on a show! And Peanut got many compliments on his cow shirt.
